Into the Deep

Deep, Deeper, Deepest

Here we have a series of paintings that is inspired by water, is about water, is painted on water, and is viewed from under water.

As subject matter Jelly fish are fascinating on so many levels. Stunningly beautiful, painful to the touch, remorseless killers, floating through life. They are awe inspiring and receive ultimate respect from all who approach. When you encounter them under water you better get out of their way. And all of this with no brains. Their is no denying that much of the allure of making these images has to do with the notion that these creatures are just a little bit creepy.

This group of paintings all required repeated applications of enamel paint. The process goes something like this: wet, apply paint, allow to dry, wet, apply paint, allow to dry, wet, apply paint, allow to dry, and so on.

Then the hand manipulations begins. Acrylic paint is usually the medium used to complete the painting, but sometimes pencil, paint sticks, or ink may also be employed.
