Portraits

For me painting portraits implies a specific connection to the subject that is not necessary for other aspects of art or design. The subject must be known, either personally or perceptually, before and after the work evolves. There are other portraits or portrait like works that appear in the design section of this web stie.

Commentary

Some of my paintings were conceived with various environmental and/or social issues in mind. The diagonal cropping cropping at the corners of the birds of prey pieces enhances the illusion of depth and reinforces the sense of perspective.

A kaleidoscopic compositional format is used for some in this series. Several of the larger paintings in this section are intended to hang as diamond shaped formats. They can also be rotated to change the emphasis from one segment to another.

Provenance

Many of the paintings in this section were exhibited previously in national and regional competitive shows. Some of them won awards at various venues throughout the USA. Some were published in relevant print media. Detailed information is available relating to most of the watercolors.
